Bolivia
is remote, high, unknown, & remains little explored by most Americans
travelers. Bolivia is a treasure house of Indian life and superb craft
in a stunning visual environment.
Itinerary: This itinerary is flexible so we can take advantage
of spontaneous opportunities.
DAY
1:
Late night, fly Lloyd Aero Boliviano Miami to La Paz.
DAYS
2-3:
Arrive in La Paz's El Alto airport (12,800 ft.). La Paz is in a nearby
valley at 11,500 feet. Our hotel is excellently located for our craft
interests. Visit museums: musical instruments, ethnographic art; Calle
Sagarnaga, witchcraft market.
DAYS
4-7:
Travel to Lake Titicaca and Copacabana. Visit Island
of the Sun, Huatajata, & Achacachi. Visit the Chrazani
Valley (north side of Lake Titicaca) known for textiles & Kallahuaya
medicine men.
DAY
8:
Return to La Paz.
DAY
9:
Fly to Sucre (9,200 ft.), beautiful colonial town with wonderful ambiance.
DAY
10:
Drive to Tarabuco. Tarabuco people have striking costumes. Hats
styled after Spanish conquistador's helmets. Also study warp patterned
Jalq'a textiles (motifs are an endless array of animals & fantastic
creatures).
DAY
11:
Today and tomorrow visit Jalq'a textile village and Sucre.
DAY
12-13:
Explore Sucre or drive to Potosi (13,400 feet) to see Casa
de la Moneda, Silver works, the mine, and classic Andes mountains.
DAY
14:
Explore local market district, then fly to La Paz in the afternoon.
DAY
15:
Visit archeological site of Tiahuanaco (600 BC to 1200 AD), once
a great ceremonial center with the most imposing pre-Inca megalithic
architecture in South America.
DAY
16:
Last day in La Paz is to explore the many shops and markets. Evening flight
on Lloyd Aero Boliviano to Miami.
DAY
17:
Arrive early morning on Lloyd Aero Boliviano in Miami.
Important Note: Because of the high elevation in Bolivia this trip
is not suited for people with heart or respiratory problems.
Price: (17 days) the price that includes hotel, ground transportation,
entrance fees, activities, all breakfasts, farewell dinner, and five lunches
is $2,295 per person. Single rooms are available for a supplementary charge
of $455. Approximate international airfare roundtrip is $800 from Miami
including the flight to Sucre. Land price does not include any airfare.
Total price, land and air, is $3,095 per person. Gordon Frost will send
you information about your air arrangements.
