Machu Picchu, PeruItinerary: This itinerary is flexible to allow for generous additions.
 
Opportunities: meet crafts people, collect crafts, & make dramatic photos.
 
DAY 1: Fly to Lima.
 
DAYS 2-3: Explore the immense collections of pre-Colombian art at the Museum of the Nation (anthropology and archaeology), the Gold Museum, and the private Amano Museum.
 
DAY 4: Open day to relax or fly to see the mysterious Nazca Lines (optional).

DAYS 5-6: Fly to Juliaca, Lake Titicaca, and travel a short distance to Puno. Visit Puno’s Indian market and travel by boat to Uru Indian floating reed island villages. Drive to the haunting Sillustani burial towers. Stay in colonial style Puno hotel.
 
DAYS 7-13: Experience a scenic train ride through mountains and pampas to Cuzco, Capital of the Incas. While in Cuzco we will stay in a colonial style hotel located near the Kusipata (Inca Square of Rejoicing). Explore the city’s fascinating quarters and relics: exceptionally fine Inca walls of Hatunrumiyoc (street of Great Stones), the old Sunturnwasi, Quishuarcancha (location of the Cathedral), Koricancha (Golden Temple), Museum of Archaeology, the artist quarter...
 
Llama, PeruDay trips to the Sacred Valley of the Inca, the Vilcanota-Urubamba River, Quechua Indian villages including Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and Chincheros. Visit Inca ruins and terraces: Kenko, Puca Pucara, Tambo Machay, and Sacsayhuaman, the world’s largest megalithic structure.
 
Ride train through soaring mountains to Machu Picchu where you will stay overnight on-site in Machu Picchu. Use morning to take advantage of early light to photograph and further explore Machu Picchu and nearby Huayna Picchu. Take the late afternoon train to Cuzco.
 
DAY 14: Fly to Lima. Visit the craft shops and boutiques of the Miraflores district. See the Larco Herrera Museum’s vast collections, 40,000 pre-Colombian pots, textiles, and gold. Fly home to the USA planning our next adventure together in Guatemala, Mexico, Cuna Indians of the San Blas Islands, Panama ... Bali, Java, Sumba, Flores, Komodo, Indonesia, and beyond!
 
 
Price: (14 days) the price that includes hotel, ground transportation, entrance fees, activities, all breakfasts, farewell dinner, and five lunches is $2,595 per person. Single rooms are available for a supplementary charge of $495. Approximate international airfare roundtrip is $500 from Los Angeles or San Francisco; please request airfare from other cities. Land price does not include any airfare. Total price, land and air, is $3,095 per person. Gordon Frost will send you information about your air arrangements.

Ask about the three-day extension to Trujillo of the north coast of Peru to visit the pre-Inca Moche ruins and the Chimu culture’s capital of Chan Chan.
