The following is from: Maya Culture & Costume by Christine Conte (The Taylor Museum, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, 1984) pp. 7-8. This book is the most comprehensive survey of Guatemalan textiles from the major collections of the United States and Canada.

"Dating from the 1900s to the late 1970s, these collections represent a more complete record of Maya textile history than can be observed in Highland Guatemala today, given that most garments (except those made expressly for special occasions) are worn more or less continuously and consequently do not last more than a few years. With this in mind, nine of the most comprehensive collections were selected for study and comparison with that of the Taylor Museum. The primary resource for locating and selecting the collections to be studied was the list of major museum and private collections of Guatemalan textiles compiled by Dr. Hilda Pang of Indiana State University. Within these collections, only garments from villages represented in the Taylor Museum were studied. The collections are as follows:
